What if I come early & where would I stay?
Some participants prefer to arrive a day or two early to rest, acclimate and avoid unforeseen travel delays. We are happy to give you hotel suggestions for either Cusco or Urubamba in the Sacred Valley, which can be reserved online.
We will still arrange for your pick-up and transfer from the airport to your hotel if you decide to arrive early. Transport is free if you choose to stay in Cusco, however, it’s an additional cost of $50 if you choose to be transported down to the Sacred Valley.
If you do arrive early and are in Cusco, then you will be picked up from your hotel the morning of the 7th. Just a reminder that any costs incurred before the welcome lunch on the 7th is your responsibility and is not included in the package price.
What do I need to know when booking a flight to Peru?
First and foremost, double check now that you have your passport and that it is valid and up to date. It is required to have a passport that is valid for 6-months or more to enter Peru. We will need your passport number to make reservations at hotels and at Machu Picchu.
Arrival city is Cusco (CUZ -Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport). Most airlines will have you fly into Lima where you will go through customs and then board your connecting flight to Cusco.
You must arrive to Cusco airport on or before Friday, June 7th at 11AM for transport to the Sacred Valley. In order to arrive on the 7th you may need to depart the day prior.
What type of travel insurance should I get?

Can I use my cell phone in Peru?
Contact your phone carrier to review international calling plans. Some folks choose to turn cellular data off while in Peru and just use WIFI to communicate with loved ones via iMessages, FaceTime or other apps such as WhatsApp. Please note that there will be some days when we will be ‘off the grid’ and will not have WIFI access.
What are some tips for acclimating to the higher altitude?
We want you to feel your absolute best while on the journey. We will be in altitudes varying from 6600 ft. - 13,000 ft. Here are some suggestions to help you maintain a vibrant state of health and wellbeing:
Drink a lot of water and stay well hydrated while traveling on airplane and while in Peru
Take homeopathic remedy for jet lag
Rest as much as possible upon arrival - sit, lie down, nap, read a book - essentially be horizontal as much as possible to help your cardiovascular system adjust to decreased oxygen levels
Drink coca leaf tea upon arrival; continue to drink it daily. Be sure to avoid drinking it after 3PM so you can get a good night’s sleep
DO NOT drink the tap water in Peru. Hotels & restaurants will have purified water to drink. Bottled water is available as well.
Add electrolytes to your water to help your body absorb water
Start taking a chlorophyll supplement like ChorOxygen 1-2 weeks before arrival; continue to take it while in Peru to help build red blood cells
For motion sickness, bring ginger candies to have on hand while on shuttles, trains and buses
What is the $$ exchange rate in Peru?
You can bring US$ cash and exchange it directly or you can use credit or debit cards at local ATMs in Peru (some banks charge a fee for ATM exchange rate, check with your credit card or bank).
Alert your credit card company and bank that you will be traveling out of the country to ensure that you can use your cards freely to purchase goods and services. Having Peruvian currency on hand is a good idea as some street vendors do not accept credit cards.
What is the COVID policy in Peru?
Currently, there are no travel restrictions to enter Peru related to COVID for international and domestic flights.

Covid 19 tests are not required anymore
Using a face mask is optional in Peru
You will need to verify with your airline company if anything is required to board their flights. Most likely, masks will be optional, however, it is highly recommend to wear your mask while traveling on the airplane to ensure the health and wellbeing of yourself and for everyone in our group. If you arrive early, please be cautious and avoid large crowds or unventilated small indoor spaces.
The last trip there were participants who did test positive for COVID and had to isolate themselves from the group; so best to avoid this scenario and travel safely. Click below for updates:
